Three Days is a Lifetime

Page 3

As our oldest daughter prepared to leave for Rome, I finished crocheting blankets. I washed the newborn clothing, a combination of white and yellow tiny clothes that were always prepared but never worn because they were quickly replaced by pink or blue. I had noticed less frequent movements and I patted my belly harder and more often.

At 38 weeks my doctor confirmed that the baby was breach, standing straight up and my ears sensed with urgency when he said something I thought was odd, “ We are running out of time.”

That phrase echoed in my mind as I considered that this might be my first C-section. That was not in my plans. Young mothers and old mothers were happy to share advice and wives tales about ways to get this baby to turn - I had a new project.
